Combining Forces

Shippers Association

North American Shippers Association is a buying cooperative. Our members pool together shipment volume to get competitive ocean shipping contracts on North American trade lanes.

North American Shippers’ Association, Inc. is a not-for-profit Delaware corporation that operates as a shippers’ association under the Shipping Act of 1984.

Under the Shipping Act, 46 U.S.C. §40102(41), a shippers’ association “is a group of shippers that consolidates or distributes freight on a nonprofit basis for the members of the group to obtain carload, truckload, or other volume rates or service contracts.”

NASA Members

Our membership includes beverage alcohol importers, wholesalers, overseas suppliers, control boards, and other importers of other beverages and products affiliated to the alcohol beverage industry. There is no minimum size for membership. We have members who move a few containers a year and others that move more than 10,000 containers per year. The combination of all this volume on our trade lanes allows us to secure the most competitive rates for the benefit of all members.

Advocating for Members

The NASA staff is a valuable resource to members for all matters related to global trade, importing, and beverage alcohol regulations. Below are some of the ways in which we are involved to advocate for the members of NASA:

  • Beverage Alcohol Associations - NASA is actively involved in beverage alcohol associations and participates in all the major beverage alcohol industry conferences.

  • Shipping & Supply Chain Associations – NASA has membership in shipping and supply chain associations that have impact on our members.

  • US Government Agencies – NASA participates in calls & meetings with US Government Agencies that affect the importation of beverage alcohol including the TTB, CBP, USITC, FMC and others.

Board of Directors and Management Team

The NASA Board of Directors is composed of industry veterans with broad experience in the transportation, importation and distribution of beverage alcohol.  The NASA Managing Director reports to the NASA Board and is responsible for the daily operations of the association.
